Repairs Before Flocking

Nissan Skyline dashboard in for modification & repairs, the image on the left is showing the dash board as it arrived at Banbury Flocking Services this car is having a heated screen fitted so the windscreen vents are no longer required, the customer has supplied infills for the front vents for us to use.

The image on the right is showing were the customer requires the dashboard to be filled and repaired.

The customer required a switch panel fitted in this part of the dash so Banbury Flocking Services made a aluminum panel fixed and secured it to the dash ready for repair.

After the plate was made there were small tags welded to the back of the plate to secure it to the dashboard, then Banbury Flocking Services fixed the plate using countersink pop rivets as shown in the right image,  we also bonded the plate in using araldite.

As the screen vents were no longer required Banbury Flocking Services made infill panels secured them to the dashboard by small tags welded in.

After the Araldite had cured Banbury Flocking Services started the filling process, the first filler is a fibrefill filler this will give the repair strength, after this we can form a good shape to start with

After the first skim of fibre filler we rub down ready for the polyester filler, it is important not to try and fill everything at once just use small skims, this will reduce the rubbing down time and it will be easier to get the shape right.

As you can see there is still a skim needed in the picture on the left.

It is always a good idea when carrying out repairs to make sure that the panel still fits (picture on right)

On the left we have the first skim to the switch panel again we have only put in a small skim.

While the filler is going of in the switch panel we can prepare the air bag cover ready for fibre fill we have abraded around the cover using a mini grinder this process needs to be done very carefully as the vinyl can tear which is hard to repair.

The air bag cover is getting it's first fibre fill skim so after the dash is rubbed down we will have a strong repair, as you can see we have also bonded in the heater vent holes with the infills supplied by the customer.

we are not trying to get the dash smooth with this skim just build the height to match the dash profile.

The picture on the left is showing the first polyester fill to the airbag cover, in total all the repairs took three skims of polyester filler, in between each process the dash was cleaned and degreased

Banbury Flocking Services has carried out to the customers wishes of fabrication and de-seaming to the Nissan Skyline dashboard.

The picture on the right is showing the finish before Banbury Flocking Services carries out the priming and flocking of the dashboard.

After the dashboard repairs were finished Banbury Flocking Services primed the repaired areas (left picture) then the dashboard was degreased cleaned and glued ready for flocking. (right picture)
