This is the beginning of a long and ongoing project of my mk 2 escort called Jack.

The idea was to convert the rear live axle to independent rear suspension, first thing to do was to decide what suspension to use we looked at the sierra diff and wishbone set up but this was to heavy and expensive.

At the time I was rallying a sierra cosworth and my co driver, good friend and working colleague  Neal Cuss he has been building cars since about 1938 and has a very good knowledge of race cars, so we had a talk about different rear suspension set ups and at the time Neal was rallying a Subaru  so you could say that this conversion is Neals idea. ( picture on left Neal Cuss )

The pictures on this website are a story of how Jack has developed since we started in November 2005.

Here are some pictures going through fabrication.

The first job was to buy a Subaru impreza so we could make a jig, the hole point of this conversion was to be able to buy parts of the shelf and as Subaru parts are so available we decided to make the car take standard parts, so all the pick up points on Jack are the same as a WRX.

The engine fitted in the car is a dummy engine lent to us by Cosworth I decided to go for a Duratec engine as it was a large capacity engine 2.3 and it was the latest modern engine at the time, as it turned out I am so glad I went for the Cosworth Duratec Cosworth have been and still are being very helpful with the installation running and care of the engine they even sent there head engineer to the rolling road and assisted in the mapping of the second engine, more about that later.

The fabrication took 3 months with two people working full time on the car.
